Best Reasons Why You Should Hang up When a Headhunter Calls

If you perform the kind of work that requires collaboration with a third-party recruiter, also known as a headhunter, then you’ll find out that you must establish your standards. You should evaluate each contact from a search company before engaging in an ongoing conversation.

Some recruiters are incredible advocates and counselors for job-seekers like you. Some aren’t worth your time.

Here are five indicators that you need to end the conversation with a recruiter whom you’re talking via phone:

1. Hang up on the headhunter if they begin the conversation by diving into the list of questions they want you to respond to. They’re trying to determine whether you’re qualified to fill the position they’re looking to fill. That’s backward! It’s better to start by asking what you’re looking for and then answer any questions you have about the position.

2. Hang up on the headhunter in case they inquire by phone or an email “What are you making now?” and “What did you earn at your last job?” It’s not their concern. They’re required to provide you with the range of salaries for the job they’re trying to fill and ask you “Will this salary range work for you?”

3. Hang up on the headhunter when they tell you that “You’re a stretch candidate” or “They’re looking for someone with a master’s degree, but I might be able to get you an interview.” That’s baloney! The trick of deflating the expectations of job seekers is the most enduring and shadiest technique available. It’s the most sure-fire sign of a scammer. The reason that a recruiter who isn’t professional will attempt to convince you to reduce expectations is to ensure that you’ll believe that they hold the key to your success and to ensure that you accept every low-ball deal you can get at the final stage.

4. Don’t bother the headhunter if they don’t answer your calls or email messages. It’s not necessary to follow the person who is likely to gain a large amount of money after you accept an offer!

5. Hang up on the headhunter Bangkok if they issue you instructions, like multiple revisions of your CV, and request that you attend for an interview, even though they’ve never asked you if that timing would be suitable for you. Be aware of your five senses every time you speak to your prospective employer and ask yourself “Does this person deserve to represent me?” If the recruiter is rude or unprofessional to you be assured that they’re acting unprofessionally and rudely with their employer’s clients as well!

Value yourself just as you would value your employer, job, or the recruiter you meet during your job hunt and you’ll be confident as you walk into an interview for a job.
